Belkıs Hanım and Onur Efendi

The Sequential a programme of five independent presentations at SALT Galata through 2021, is now presenting its fourth exhibition: Belkıs Hanım and Onur Efendi by artists Fatma Belkıs & Onur Gökmen, revolves around the identity of an “intellectual” that emerged with the process of modernization, and the turbulent states of mind that it brought about.

The exhibition includes part of the duo’s first feature-length fiction film, Alakadar [The Connected] (2018–ongoing), as well as sculptures that purposefully look unfinished or feel clumsy, which is part of the artists’ reinterpretation of the cultural changes that occurred as a result of the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey.

As part of SALT’s 10th year program, The Sequential video screenings will be held at Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid) on 19-20 November. SALT, together with the Reina Sofia team, selected five videos from The Sequential.
