Cecil Beaton: Portraits

May 13, 2015 – July 26, 2015

The Pera Museum, Meşrutiyet Cad 65, Tepebaşı, Beyoğlu, Istanbul

Undoubtedly one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, Cecil Beaton’s (1904–1980) captivating portraits will be exhibited for the first time in Turkey at The Pera Museum this spring–summer.

Besides being a celebrated photographer, Beaton was also an Oscar-winning costume designer. However, this show curated by Terence Pepper, the Senior Advisor on Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery in London, will concentrate on portraits of artists, actors, writers, intellectuals and royalty that Beaton took from the 1920s to the 1970s, all on loan from Sotheby’s Cecil Beaton Studio Archive.

In Cornucopia 31, Omar Khalidi tells the story of HIH Dürrüşehvar Sultan, the princess who captivated Beaton.
