Cevdet Erek: Bergama Stereotip

February 27, 2020 – November 15, 2020

Cevdet Erek’s solo exhibition Bergama Stereotip, conceived specifically for Arter, is curated by Selen Ansen and takes as its point of reference the architecture and the odyssey of the Great Altar of Pergamon (displayed in Berlin after being shipped there stone by stone from its original home on the Aegean). Here Erek is developing the theme of his earlier work Bergama Stereo, shown first at the Turbinenhalle as part of the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum, then in the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum in Berlin in 2019. As in Bergama Stereo, sound, architecture and historicity all play a role – sound, in particular, mirroring the altar’s historical odyssey.
