Organised in collaboration with the Consul General of Greece in San Francisco and the Center for Modern Greek Studies at San Francisco State University, this two-day lecture and performance programme aims to provide unique insights into Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire via a multi-disciplinary approach.

There will be performances from a dance group and various choirs, as well as four lectures and a panel discussion on various topics pertaining to the Byzantine Empire. Highlights include Professor Susanna K. Elm’s (from the Department of History at the University of California) lecture entitled ‘Constantinople – the New Rome in Late Antiquity’ and Associate Professor Bissera Pentcheva’s (from the departments of art and art history at Stanford) lecture ‘Haghia Sophia and Multi-Sensory Aesthetics’.
