- What’s On
Two autumn international art fairs have been battling it out in Istanbul. For timing and location, bang in the middle of the city in Maçka’s congress acropolis, this is the one Cornucopia is putting its money on. Contemporary Istanbul is back for its tenth instalment. Taking part this year are 102 leading and emerging galleries. After a year away, Cornucopia will also be there. Please come and visit us.
One of the 23 newcomers to Contemporary Istanbul this year is the influential KUAD Gallery, a relative newcomer to the Istanbul scene that hosts consistently high-quality shows of mostly international artists.
The focus this year Tehran, a city with a long-standing visual arts scene that has only recently been rediscovered by the global market. The fair will also feature the third edition of Plugin, a section dedicated to new media. This year the galleries, architecture and design studios, and new media initiatives participating in Plugin, which includes Cornucopia favourite Galeri Zilberman, will be gathered in a single space under a curatorial theme proposed by Dr Ebru Yetişkin: ‘X-CHANGE’. Furthermore, in honour of the fair’s tenth anniversary, the Australia China Art Foundation (ACAF) has coordinated a project that will bring Chinese artists and galleries to Istanbul to be displayed in private and public spaces. The collaboration will, in the future, extend to Australian artists and will also bring artists from Turkey and the Middle East to China and Australia.
