The exhibition features works from Zonaro’s early Neapolitan and Venetian periods, followed by works created in Istanbul, where he lived between 1891 and 1910, followed by works from his Italian and French riviera periods. In total 75 works belonging to Fiorentine museums, foundations and private collections will be exhibited. The exhibition catalogue prepared in Italian and English includes articles by Erol Makzume, Francesca Midiri, Philip Mansel and Valeri Wadsworth Falchi.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday April 1 at 5pm with a presentation by Dr. Francesca Midiri followed by speakers Dr. Murat Hazinedar, Mayor of Beşiktaş Dr. Tuba Dikmen, from the Cultural Office, Municipality of Beşiktaş and Dr Maria Luisa Scolari from the Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul. This will be followed at 5.30pm by a concert of European Music at the Ottoman Court performed by the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, conducted by Dr Emre Aracı. The concert will be followed by cocktails.
A press conference will be held at 12 noon on April 1 at the Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
The exhibition aims to highlight the cultural juxtapositions between the Italian and Turkish historical traditions.
