Fine Antique Oriental Rugs XXIV

March 19, 2021

@austria_auction_company will present ‘Fine Antique Oriental Rugs XXIV’, its third auction of the year. By the end of the sale, the auctioneer will have offered over 600 antique carpets for sale so far in 2021, and the room’s industry is matched in this latest sale by the sheer variety of material offered. The 225 lots in this sale are a virtual world tour of collectible weaving types from different cultures, and this variety is particularly evident in the large number of flatwoven textiles offered in the sale. Many of these are from the Odo Weiss collection and range from the mafrash or cradles of the southern Caucusus, via a group of Bolivian Aymara ponchos and Navajo blankets, through to a good and large collection of 18th and 19th-century Anatolian kilims, including the highlight of the auction, lot 139, a complete Sivas saf (estimate €22-30,000, detail above). . The auction will be held at the firm’s Palais Breuner rooms in Vienna’s Singerstrasse, with telephone, absentee bidding, and live-online bidding available at Live Auctioneers and Invaluable.
