- What’s On
This exhibition, one of three concurrent solo shows at ARTER, features all new works by the artist Bahar Yürükoğlu. Curated by Duygu Demir, the exhibition takes as its departure point the artist’s experiences during her travels to the Arctic Circle in 2015, both in the summertime when the sun doesn’t set, and during the winter months when darkness prevails.
Yürükoğlu creates fictional spaces based on the dualities she observed in the Arctic region; tackling presence and absence, past and future, nature and civilisation, and mining towns and advanced-technology science villages. Drawing its inspiration from melting icebergs and polar bear postcards, the exhibition opens up to the viewer’s experience Yürükoğlu’s installations combining light, colour and sound.
