Soho Screening Rooms, 14 D'Arblay Street, W1F 8DY London, United Kingdom

The UK premiere of Girls of Hope, a documentary portraying the struggles of a few young Turkish girls in their attempts to pursue an education, will be followed by a presentation of the accompanying photo-documentary book (Annem Sayesinde / Thanks to My Mother by Delizia Flaccavento) and a Q&A session with the director, Ayşegül Selenga Taşkent. The screening is organised by the Turkish Women’s International Network (TurkishWIN).

Filmed in southeastern Turkey, the documentary follows girls who are determined to attend school. Yet in this region, where the illiteracy rate among women is nearly 45 percent, economic hardship and strict traditions make it difficult for these girls to receive an education. What ultimately shines through as these young girls tell their stories is their unwavering hope for a better future.
