Histories of the Post-Digital: 1960s and 1970s Media Art Snapshots

December 17, 2014 – February 21, 2015

Akbank Sanat Beyoğlu, İstiklal Caddesi No. 8, Taksim, Beyoğlu

Through photography, installations and contemporary art, this exhibition explores the history of media art entering the digital age. Taking audiences back to the beginning, the exhibition looks at the first digital artistic products of the 1960s and 1970s.

The exhibition has two main axes. The first one focuses on a legendary series of performances that took place at the Regiment Armory building in New York in 1966, a milestone in the field of art and technology. The second is about the fourth and fifth exhibitions of the (New) Tendencies movement, organised in Zagreb in 1968–69 and 1973.

Presented for the first time in 35 years is Michael Fahres’ work ‘Mobilodrom’, a vehicle producing sounds in reaction to its environment, now in the form of multimedia documentation (above).

The works are not for sale.
