Theatre in These Times is the theme of the IKSV’s 25th theatre festival, breathing life into both the theatre world and into theatre lovers with many new productions, including some in search of a new normal. A part of these 25 productions, (14 local and 11 International) will be available in Turkey online and others can be viewed in many Istanbul theatres under Covid-19 restrictions, namely Alan Kadıköy, Atlas 1948 Cinema, Profilo Cultural Center West Main Stage, Duru Ataşehir, Moda Stage, Caddebostan Cultural Center, Museum Gazhane, Yapı Kredi bomontiada and Zorlu PSM. Online screenings can be watched at passostudio.com throughout the festival.

The plays:

The festival kicks off at 8pm on October 22 (viewable online until November 22) with Chekhov’s The Bear, a humorous social critique much re-written by Chekhov, performed by The Moscow Playwright and Director Centre and Chekhov International Theatre Festival (Russian with Turkish subtitles); Betroffenheit, a coproduction by Kidd Pivot and the Electric Company Theatre for BBC Four, described by the Guardian as ‘the best dance show of the 21st century.’ (English with Turkish subtitles); Virginia Wolf’s A Room of One’s Own (Kendine Ait Bir Oda, Turkish), translated, adapted and directed by Jale Karabekir and performed by the feminist theatre group Tiyatro Boyalı Kuş (Painted Bird Theatre).

Important information: Viewers who have completed their vaccinations or have had the disease can enter the events by showing their information on the Hayat Eve Sığar (HES) application as of September 6. Persons who have not completed their vaccinations or have not recovered from the disease at a time during which the immunity period is still in progress will be able to enter the activities by showing the negative PCR tests made up to 48 hours before.

All controls will be made through the HES application at the event entrances. In order for the HES code to display the necessary information, viewers must download the current version of the HES mobile application and share the Risk Status, Vaccine Status, Disease Status and Test Status fields in the “HES Code Settings” section. No PCR testing is required for audiences under the age of 18.
