In Remembrance of the Gallipoli Campaign on the Occasion of its Centenary

Organised by the Anglo-Turkish Society and the Yunus Emre Institute and presented by Gallipoli and Dardanelles (G&D) International, this evening will remember the Gallipoli Campaign on its centenary.

Speaking on the evening will be John Crowe, the president and founder of G&D International, who has been researching the Gallipoli Campaign for the past 14 years. He has visited the Gallipoli peninsula on eight occasion. His father, Robert John Crowe, served with the 5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment and went into action at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli on August 12, 1915. After suffering a shrapnel wound, he was evacuated to Britain, and, following a full recovery, went on to serve with his regiment at Egypt, Palestine and Gaza for the remainder of the war.

Also speaking will be Simon Kleinig, the secretary of G&D International. An Australian writer and journalist, Kleinig’s areas of research include colonial history and military history. He served as a conscripted rifleman with the Australian battalion in Malaya and Vietnam between 1968 and 1970. Simon will speak on the Anzac perspective and how it affects both Australia and New Zealand.
