Join Professor Scott Redford (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London) on 1 February for a fascinating discussion on Islamic ceramics, archaeology and the art market. In the West, the collecting of Islamic ceramics has traditionally taken a back seat to east Asian ceramics. Why is this so? This lecture explores the roles played by dealers, collectors, and museums in creating a body of material known as “Islamic ceramics.” What constitutes this body, and how did it come to be? How might it have been different?
This free event will take place on Zoom and a link to join will be shared in advance by email.
