Caner Şengünalp

December 20, 2013 – January 19, 2014

Galeri Ilayda, Hüsrev Gerede Caddesi No. 37, Teşvikiye, Istanbul

Caner Şengünalp’s timely exhibition explores the socio-cultural and urban process that Istanbul goes through as a result of rural exodus. The city is being fiercely reconstructed with urban transformation projects due to the growing population coming from all corners of the country. This urban restructuring process is being implemented without any consideration to local residents. The authorities that play an important role in the marketing and shaping of the city determine the lifestyles of people as some kind of pre-packaged lives.

To visually represent this, the artist has made scale model figures in bronze, stone and wood and placed them on the stage that is Istanbul.
