- What’s On
İz Oztat has evolved a powerfully encrypted language in her art. She held her previous solo exhibition at the gallery, Suspended, during the 16th Istanbul Biennial. There she combined different media and examined power and and a feeling of loss.
Her second solo exhibition at Pi’s Karaköy gallery, Watercolour on Paper, shows a selection of evocatively titled abstract watercolour series made at different periods of her life. Öztat sees her them as a diary of the creative process. They include In the Rivers North of the Future (2014–17), Pleasure/Sizzle (2018–19) and April Diary (2020). A video based on a series of watercolours, Recounting Nightmares to Running Water (2015), draws on Anatolian folklore.
