Kendell Geers

Artist Talk and Opening

July 3, 2013
18.00 Talk, 19.30 Opening

Galerist, Meşrutiyet Caddesi No. 67/1, Tepebaşı, Beyoğlu

To celebrate his first solo exhibition in Istanbul, Stealing Fire from Heaven, South-African born, Belgium-based artist Kendell Geers will talk about his current works, which centre on the themes of ‘meditation upon violence and poetry, the struggle between creation and destruction, [and] the fragile balance between flesh and spirit’, with art critic Ayşegül Sönmez.

It is art, he believes, which can free and unite people separated by language, culture and ideologies. An interesting concept which comes at a time when the city is too questioning whether art can unite people fighting for the same cause – and it seems the answer is yes.

The official opening of his exhibition, which has been on since June 4 and will end on July 13, will also take place. It was postponed from its original date due to the protest happening in Turkey.
