Inspired by the novel Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco, Marvelous Correspondences, Subtle Resemblances brings together the work of two artists born 30 years apart.
For both men ink is not just a material but a field of experience, but they treat their passion in strikingly different ways.
Alp İşmen was born in Istanbul in 1962, Yüksel Dal in Denizli in 1992. Both artists trained in Istanbul and are skilled at producing penetratingly beautiful works of art. A particular treat are Alp İşmen’s large sketchbooks (see below). He has some 40 of them and refers to them as his ‘holy books’.
