Ottoman miniature painting developed during the 15th century under Sultan Mehmed II. At that time, this art was mainly used for the decoration of books but in time it expanded and came to be recognised as an art on its own. The tools used in miniature painting are those also used in illumination. The Alhamra Art Center, in Bernandsville, N.J., is offering a full-day beginner’s workshop into an introduction to traditional miniature painting, led by Zinnur Doganata.
Zinnur Doganata was born in Turkey and came to United States in 1984 for her graduate studies. She started taking lessons from Mujgan Baskoylu in 2011 and received her icazet in illumination and miniature from her in 2018. Her works have appeared in several New York Islamic Arts exhibitions in New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Turkey.
