Prison for Minor Offenses

Eşref Yıldırım

November 12, 2014 – January 10, 2015

Zilberman Gallery and Project Space, Mısır Apt, İstiklâl Cad 163, Floors 2 & 3, D5 & 10, Galatasaray, Beyoğlu, 34433 İstanbul

In its new space specially reserved for artists’ projects, Galeri Zilberman presents a work originally created for the 5th Sinop Biennial.

Focusing on crime, Eşref Yıldırım invites audiences to think about impunity in this interactive and performative work. Consisting of a prison for one person with iron bars and a padlock, the work was wheeled around the streets of Sinop on a cart for the public to interact with. Sentences for minor offences such as lying, breaking a heart and talking behind someone’s back are decided by the convicted themselves. People who wish to do so can write about their crimes in the little notebook inside the small prison as a way to get relief.

The work is for sale and priced at TL25,000.
