Do you ever wonder where your surname originated? Do you have an intriguing surname in your family that you would like to learn more about? What can your DNA tell you? Come and meet the Guild of One – Name Studies, find out what we do, and how the Guild can help you discover more about your ancestors and their lives. Talk and refreshments. Free Admission

2pm: DESCENDED FROM A REIVER?
A presentation by Lorna Kinnaird and Wendy Tait. Lorna and Wendy look at how to approach trying to prove that you are descended from a Border Reiver. They use real life studies to demonstrate the brick walls you might encounter on the way and how to try to overcome them. Tickets £2, available at the door.

Intriguingly, recent DNA studies among the Elliotts of the Borders connect them with Central and Southern Asia and in some cases to Ghenhis Khan himself.
So there is a Turkic connection here as well!
