Burhan Kum

March 6, 2014 – April 26, 2014

The Empire Project, Defterdar Yokuşu No 35, Cihangir, Istanbul

In his eagerly anticipated new show, the Turkish artist Burhan Kum critically approaches the socio-political dynamics of the geography we live in – a deliberation of the past and the present, his works are deeply reflective of urban culture and its effect on the individual. Prices range from €3,500–€30,000

Retaliation is a critique of the here and now. The works collectively question the urban pillage our cities are undergoing for financial gain and how religion is used for capital in a time where uniformity is presented as diversity and repression is presented as freedom. Very timely, topical and strong. Kum is not afraid to say it how it is and his imagery is designed to shock.
