Sounding Horses

Süleyman Saim Tekcan

April 9, 2014 – May 10, 2014

Galeri Işık, Teşvikiye Caddesi 6, Nişantaşı, Istanbul

From 1990 to the present, the veteran Turkish artist Süleyman Saim Tekcan has been producing prints, oil paintings and sculptures and reliefs which feature variations of horse images, most of the time accompanied by paleography which gives the works a patterned impact.

In the ‘Horses and Calligraphy’ series, examples of Ottoman calligraphy are placed next to or above horse depictions. The ‘Bronze Horses’ is a derivative of the ‘Horses and Calligraphy’ series, and includes sculptures which combine writing and old coins in order to create textured works. There are also stunning, colourful oil paintings.

Prices are $500–$800 for the glass sculptures, $2,000–$30,000 for the bronze sculptures and $15,000–$100,000 for the oil paintings.
