Kadıköy Rıhtım

Sunday evening is offering quite a party, the first ‘Gasman Festival’. The world and his mother is invited to descend on Kadıköy for a grand fest set to kick off at 17.30. There has been an explosion of musical creativity since the Istanbul protests began on May 31. Rock veterans Bulutsuzluk Özlemi (Oh for a cloudless sky) and the melancholic Feridun Düzağaç are joined by the gutsy Izmir-born Hakan Vreskala, whose wild Dağılın Lan (Scatter, boys), written back in 2011, became a leitmotif of the Gezi Park movement (click here for more clips) and Yaşar Kurt. The meydan will be equipped with giant screens and mock-ups (only, we hope) of TOMAs, (not the engine, but the brand new homemade mobile social control units that entered the Turkish vocabulary and meydans big-time last month).
