The Journey

Sinan Demirtaş

November 25, 2013 – December 14, 2013

Merkur Gallery, Mim Kemal Öke Caddesi 12, Erenler Apt D2, Nişantaşı, Istanbul

Solo exhibition of Turkish artist Sinan Demirtaş featuring his stunning hyperrealist paintings.

One of the main aims of Demirtaş’ work is to comment on our relationships with space. In the ‘Journey’ series, space is a limiting element for the body, and in this respect, the canvas is not a medium for painting as we are accustomed to seeing it, but is an element that complements the painting and becomes integrated with it. Figures lean towards various corners of the canvas as seen by the above painting where the figure lies on the bottom of the canvas and the below work in which the figure uses the canvas as a mirror or glass partition.
