On 25 January 2022, Ahmet Çullu will tell the fascinating story of his maternal grandfather, Ibrahim Paşazade Hüseyin Hüsnü, a tobacco trader from Kavala. Fleeing Kavala after the first Balkan War, his family stayed with the khedive Abbas II in Alexandria for two years then moved to Istanbul. Hüseyin Kavalali went on to serve the newly established republic in a variety of capacities, including as president of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and head of the Turkish Exchange Delegation for the Kavala region.
