This seminar explores drastic shifts and changes the Turkish capital went through over the last century. Moving beyond the traditional view that presents Ankara as a mere product of the early Republican Nation-building process, the city’s development is explored through larger geopolitical forces and societal current. The presenter, Savaş Zafer Şahin, comes from an urban planner background and is currently a professor at the University of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli.
‘Ankara Dump’, a short directed by Mahir Kalaylıoğlu will be screened at the beginning of the seminar.
The seminar can be attended both online and in person at the French Institute of Anatolian Studies. Registration is required by December 12 on the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfHfNyOEo-MLoZ9hLnevHWAt9bTbsj_lg3HpgZ-U88KbT0MgQ/viewform
