The Thought that Counts

November 6, 2014 – December 6, 2014

Curated by Nazım H R Dikbaş, this is Elipsis’s last exhibition. The only contemporary art gallery in Istanbul dedicated to photography represented pioneering photographers from Turkey and beyond since it opened in August 2007.

This show displays works by the artists Elipsis most recently represented. The gallery says it is closing because it can no longer sustain itself as a commercial art gallery in the present climate. Its closure sheds light on the supposedly ‘booming’ art market in Turkey, the interest shown by collectors in pioneering and experimental artists, and their support for galleries and similar spaces which show works by these artists.

Exhibited artists include: Seza Bali, Olaf Otto Becker, Michel Comte, David Drebin, Gilbert Garcin, Özant Kamacı, Şahin Kaygun, Michael Kenna, Ferit Kuyaş, Jose Maria Mellado, Isabel Munoz, Metehan Özcan, Civan Özkanoğlu, Yusuf Sevinçli, Karen Stuke, Serkan Taycan and Michael Wolf.
