Themeless/Contactless 3

June 19, 2013 – September 27, 2013

Galeri Ilayda, Hüsrev Gerede Caddesi No. 37, Teşvikiye, Istanbul

Galeri Ilayda’s summer exhibition showcases the works of eleven Turkish artists working in the mediums of painting, sculpture and installation.

The highly-conceptual, wonderfully arranged exhibition attempts to reveal the different perspectives of the artists within ‘singular living conditions aimed at performing in a themeless manner without any contact with an artificial system and each under an unrestricted heading’. So in other words, anything goes.

Ozan Oganer’s sculpture of a jaguar is covered in floral lace giving a usually predatory creature a softer touch. Aysel Alver questions what is meant by beauty, ugliness, fashion and trends with her sculptures of female bodies. Damla Özdemir’s 3D collages have a retro feel and Ertuğrul Ateş’ paintings of sultans and mythical creatures are transported to large beach balls creating a playful mood.

The participating artists are: Derya Altınel, Ertuğrul Ateş, Elvin Karaaslan, Engin Beyaz, Nurdan Likos, Ozan Oganer, Damla Özdemir, Gazi Sansoy, Gülfidan Özmen, Işıl Ulaş and Özcan Uzkur.
