Ali Kazma

January 30, 2015 – April 5, 2015

ARTER, İstiklâl Caddesi No. 211, Tünel, Beyoğlu

ARTER starts its 2015 season with a comprehensive exhibition of the renowned video artist Ali Kazma. Curated by Emre Baykal, the show brings together 22 works selected from the artist’s various video series produced in the last decade. The majority of the works will be shown in Turkey for the first time.

Baykal has collaborated with Kazma on several projects including the video series Resistance (2013), which the artist produced for the Pavilion of Turkey at the 55th International Venice Biennale. The show features a wide selection from this series which explores the interventions that both release the body from its restrictions and also restrict it in order to control it.

Other works include ‘Clock Master’ (2006), from the series Obstructions, which Kazma began producing in 2005. In this series, now comprising 18 pieces, Kazma explores the equilibrium between order and chaos, and life and death. There are also individual works in which the artist explores the concepts of time and space, including the multi-channel installations ‘Absence’, ‘Past’, ‘OK’ and ‘Written’. Highly recommended.
