This concert by the distinguished pianist Gülsin Onay, her violinist son Erkin and cellist Poyraz Baltacıgil features works by three Turkish composers (Ekrem Zeki Ün’s Yudumluk for solo violin, the second movement of Ahmed Adnan Saygun’s Sonatin for solo piano, and the second movement of the young composer Bogatay Köprülü’s Cello Concerto, arranged for cello and piano). Finally, the ensemble will play Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio, Opus 50. Tchaikovsky wrote his 1882 Piano Trio, one of the greatest works of the Romantic era in this genre, in memory of his mentor and friend Nikolai Rubinstein (1835-81), a pianist and composer. Nikolai was the younger brother of the virtuoso pianist and composer Anton Rubinstein, who founded the St Petersburg Conservatoire.
