Two Faces of Suffering

May 16, 2014 – June 8, 2014

Curated by Hüseyin Karabey, this exhibition brings together numerous stories that the young photographer Kamuran Erkaçmaz has collected over seven months of travelling to around 70 cities and more than 100 towns in Turkey. The photos and video footage that Erkaçmaz has shot brings us face to face with the victims of the 30-year long conflict between the Turkish state and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Poverty is not the only thing that binds these people: they also share a deep longing for peace. As the photographs show, there is no hint of hatred in their eyes, despite the unbearable pain that they face day after day.

The exhibition was designed by Sera Dink and the accompanying texts were edited by Fatmagül Ökten, Metin Aksoy and Şeyda Direnci.
