Art ON Istanbul, Meşrutiyet Cad. Bilsar Binası No. 90-A, Şişhane, Beyoğlu

Popular new-media artist Daniel Canogar’s latest show gives new meaning to the term ‘swimming in rubbish’.

Large-scale digital prints show people floating amidst plastic bottles, CDs, VHS tapes, cables, lightbulbs and other everyday objects. By placing people alongside discarded objects in such a way, Canogar explores their short-life expectancy, as well as their relationship to organic mortality. An accompanying video in which the artist discusses the work and his motivation in general is a nice touch.

Not a stranger to Istanbul, Canogar’s installation ‘Spin’ was displayed at last year’s Contemporary Istanbul fair.
