One of the most important collections of Oriental manuscripts is a highlight of any visit to Dublin. A winner of the 2002 ‘European Museum of the Year’ its rich collections from Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe include manuscripts, miniature paintings, prints, drawings, rare books and decorative arts. Amassed by the ‘King of Copper’, the American mining millionaire Sir Alfred Chester Beatty (1875-1968), the collection includes Egyptian papyrus texts, illuminated copies of the Qur’an, the Bible, and European medieval and renaissance manuscripts. Admission is free.
