Die Poesie des Einfachen: Eine Sammlung anatolischer Kelims
The Poetry of Simple Things (Die Poesie des Einfachen) is a limited edition monograph displaying 131 Anatolian kilims from the authors’ private collection. The book outlines their individual points of view on collecting Anatolian kilims, and the reasons for their personal choices.
The Poetry of Simple Things, has been the aesthetic ethos shaping this collection, now published in this beautiful book.
Previously unpublished textiles are featured as well as better known examples. Most of the flatweaves are displayed on double pages with additional photographs of details showing the weave and the subtle play of shades of colour.
The wide range of kilim types represented in this book shows – besides some spectacular early examples – a number of completely unexpected materials which contribute to the further understanding of 18th and early 19th century Anatolian kilims.
Highlighting patterns based on the fascinating rhythms of stripes, as well as of flatwoven items containing camel hair, this book further explores material exhibited in five different German museums arranged by the authors from 1999 to 2014.
Conservation of Anatolian kilims has also played an important rôle in the authors’s work. The book also offers detailed advice on cleaning and conservation of textile fragments for the future preservation of cultural heritage.
