Gernant Magnin

Gernant Magnin is a Dutch environmental expert who has spent his life watching and protecting birds and bird habitats, especially in the Mediterranean. He lived and worked in Turkey for a total of 15 years and is one of the authors of the first comprehensive Turkish Important Bird Areas inventory, published in 1997. He is one of the founders of WWF Turkey and headed its office during 2003 and 2004. Initially Gernant came to Turkey in 1987 to investigate the impacts and socio-economic aspects of falconry and the associated shooting of birds of prey in north-east Turkey; in the subsequent years he travelled the country exhaustively to find and document natural sites and birds.
