15th October 2026, 19:00 (Turkish time)
Toni M. Cross Library, Ankara ARIT

The speaker:
Prof. Dr. Zeynep Çizmeli Öğün
Ankara University, Classical Archeology

Coins are historical documents that can tell us a great deal about who minted them and the cities that used them. This is especially true in the case of Ankyra, the ancient city that now lies beneath modern Ankara, and about which there are many things we still do not know.

This talk, which is to be given in Turkish, covers two main areas: coins minted in Ankyra itself, and those that have been unearthed during archeological digs since the 1930s. The emphasis will be on assessing what gaps in our knowledge of this ancient city these coins might fill.
