İbrahim Şahidi was one of the most influential scholars in Mevlevi history. Living in the 15th and 16th centuries, his works include the Tuhfe-i Şahidi, a short rhyming Persian to Turkish dictionary that enjoyed popularity over many centuries. This presentation will be held by Jamal J. Elias, professor of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He will explore Şahidi and his works within the context of the influence Persian literature had on Ottoman literary movements and language use.
