Fahrelnissa Zeid, was a prominent figure of modernism in Turkey. These portraits are of her family, close friends, and students and appear in pages of sketchbooks she kept throughout her life. She used the technique of encircling color patches with black lines similar to her abstract paintings. Here she breaks the visual continuity in her portraits and emphasizes her disregard of three-dimensionality.
