On Friday 4th September at 6 pm, Maison Phebus will host Dr. Melanie Gibson for a talk and book signing on the 19th-century travels of Frederic Leighton. Celebrated as one of the most successful artists of his day, this Victorian artist crossed the length of the Ottoman Empire buying tiles, ceramics, textiles and woodwork with which to furnish his studio house. Its centrepiece was the Arab Hall, an amalgam of Islamic, Mediterranean, and Victorian craft traditions, set at the heart of Kensington, London.
