Göbeklitepe is one of the most intriguing archaeological sites in the world. Dating back to 10,000 BC, the site is one of the largest from the Neolithic period and was meant for large gatherings, possibly with religious purposes. The imagery on the buildings stones of the site features both flora and fauna, and there is evidence that some sort of organised agricultural programme took place in the fields surrounding the site. As the site pre-dates written history, we might never completely understand the secrets of Göbeklitepe, but the site and it’s archaeological evidence is continually challenging our understanding the Neolithic period and its peoples.
Göbeklitepe and its mysteries are the subject of a new digital exhibition at CerModern, Göbeklitepe: The Gathering. This digital experience, combined with physical simulations, such as the smell of wheat and yeast, transports the visitors into the atmosphere of Neolithic Göbeklitepe.
