Cengiz Çekil (1945–2015) was a pioneering figure of conceptual art in Turkey who used everyday materials in his works, recontextualising and transforming them into multi-layered works that comment on socio-political circumstances such as modernisation, urbanisation, globalisation, political violence, and consumerism. His works contemplate existential questions about death, energy, time, and faith. The exhibition titled ‘I Am Still Alive’ is a retrospective of Çekil’s practice, which aims to celebrate life despite all its difficulties.
