Institut français Turkey is pleased to present to you a hybrid comics exhibition, which is a mixture of comics drawn for traditional print publications and comics created in new completely digital formats. This exhibition also concludes the year of comics organized worldwide this year by the Institut français.
Our Istanbul selection was enriched with the pages of comics compiled among the works published in French and Turkish by illustrator Ersin Karabulut. The exhibition, which is divided into two routes in two languages, will allow you to visit the illustrated worlds of this great comic book artist, born in Istanbul in 1981.
As other new faces of comics, we are exhibiting works titled ”Le grand méchant renard” and “Phallaina” in digital format. These digital works are two of the examples in the digital comics panel made within the Institut français “ Machine à bulles ” exhibition. Ersin Karabulut was born in 1981 in Istanbul. Starting from his high school years, he wrote and drew cartoons and comic stories in many publications including Pişmiş Kelle, Gırgır, Lombak, Penguin, and Sleepless, which he founded. Graduated from Mimar Sinan University, Graphic Design Department. He prepared storyboards and illustrations for advertising agencies. In addition to working as an editor and illustrator for Sleepless Magazine, he has been working for the French publishing houses Fluide Glacial and Dargaud since 2016, producing comic book albums in Turkish and French. He organizes workshops on comics and storytelling at home and abroad.
