TANAS didn’t call itself a gallery, but rather an art space dedicated to presenting the ongoing developments which were happening in Turkish contemporary art.
Since 1989 Istanbul and Berlin have been linked as partner cities, and the co-operation among cultural institutions and programmes that have come from this have created an increasingly complex web of relationships in the arts between Turkey and Germany. A good example is TANAS that ran from 2007 and 2013 TANAS as a platform for a continuing discourse between Turkish artists and curators, and the German and international audience.
TANAS closed on November 3, 2013 and a special farewell concert was screened on December 7.
