- What’s On
The title of this exhibition comes from the opening line of Rillke’s poem The Island (III): ‘Only within is near; all else is far.’ From the moment of birth, when a mother holds her newborn’s hand, the sense of intimacy depends on touch – something we have been missing this past year. Dirimart’s exhibition All Else Is Far focuses on longing, alienation and the feeling of being trapped in the context of sensual intimacy.
While performing artists have been suffering, painters and sculptors have been able to produce remarkable work. This show, a stone’s throw from Arter, is a tour de force by contemporary Turkish artists. Many, such CANAN, Sakis and the film-maker Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be familiar to CORNUCOPIA readers. Nuri Bilgi Ceylan was the subject of a perceptive article by Maureen Freely’s article ‘Frozen Moments’.
