Arter welcomes contemporary artist Candeğer Furtun’s first retrospective exhibition, in which curator Selen Ansen captures the whole range of her materials and vision. The ceramic artist was born in 1936. Her work is deeply imbued with philosophy, history, society and politics. This show sets out her work chronologically, and shows how her focus on the human form and nature evolved – the shell, the dynamic interaction between emptiness and fullness, abstraction and figuration have all been part of her quest ever since the barriers of what was acceptable for ceramic art were broken in the 1960s.
