The Pill in Balat is currently showing Leylâ Gediz’s Denizens in conjunction with The Seventh Continent. Denizens examines notions of displacement, community and place-making, and how communities can became both settled and unsettled over time and across places. The exhibition intimately explores the concept of ‘denizens’, a mid-19th century term that was used to describe a non-essentialist belonging that stemmed from living in or frequently visiting a particular place.
Denizens also includes a performance piece by Sudanese-Turkish artist Deniz Pasha.
