- What’s On
Charlotte and Heather Sterland’s music defies genre and boundaries, hinting at traditional folk music, but with strong classical and jazz elements. They use both their classical and electronic production knowledge to create unique live experiences – audience members might even play board games, or have their portraits painted!
The duo are also influenced by the music they find as they travel, writing lyrics whilst on the road and collecting songs from the countries they visit, often performing them in their original language. Lyrics mean a lot to them and accompany all their CDs. Inspiration has come from from Spain and Portugal, France, Italy, Sicily and Corsica, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and South Africa. They have written for musical theatre, audiobook production and film, and their music has been used by Channel 4 and the BBC in the UK.
Other interests: Charlotte and Heather formed Shear Rock in 2016 (www.shear-rock.com) to combat fast fashion, realising some sheeps’ wool in the UK is often underused and wasted. The throws and fabrics they create are used for interiors, upholstery and tailoring.
