Ozan Sari (violin), Çağdaş Özkan (piano)

Violinist Ozan Sari and pianist Çağdaş Özkan perform Dvořák’s four-movement Sonatina for Violin and Piano in G major, Opus 100, written in 1893 while the composer was in New York; Beethoven’s four-movement Sonata No 5 in F major for Violin and Piano, Opus 24 (the so-called ‘Spring Sonata’ – a very seasonal choice), published in 1801; No 1 (Playera) of the Spanish Dances, Opus 23 by the Spanish violin virtuoso, composer and conductor Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908); an anonymous folk melody from Azerbaijan entitled Sarı Gelin; and Hora Mărțișorului, a lively dance piece by the Romanian gypsy violinist and composer Grigoraş Dinicu (1889-1949), whom the celebrated violin virtuoso Jascha Heifetz is said to have described as ‘the greatest violinist I have ever heard’; Stéphane Grappelli was also an enthusiastic admirer. In the 1930s, Dinicu was involved in the political movement of the Roma in Romania, and was made honorary president of the ‘General Union of the Romanian Roma’.

Violin & piano recital

Alican Süner (violin), Deniz Gür (piano)

Violinist Alican Süner and pianist Deniz Gür perform Brahms’s Sonata No 2 in A major for Violin and Piano, a lyrical and relaxed piece written while the composer was holidaying beside Lake Thun (in the Bernese Oberland) in 1886; the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi’s Six Pieces for Piano, P 044, written between 1903 and 1905 in a number of different styles ranging from Baroque and Classical to Romantic and Impressionist (whether or not this piece will be played by the pianist only or in an arrangement for violin and piano is not specified); and the four-movement Much Ado About Nothing Suite, Opus 11, written in 1918-19 by the Austrian-American composer, pianist and conductor Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957), this being his most famous incidental music for the theatre. After emigrating from Austria to the USA in the mid-1930s (smart move – he was Jewish), Korngold made a name for himself as a composer of music for Hollywood films.

Earlier in the day, between 11 and 12, the duo will be performing at the AKM.
