The Beyoğlu gallery Öktem Aykut (founded by Doğa Öktem and Tankut Aykut is showing the beautiful canvases of Murat Yıldız in Art Fair Basel, highly sensitive work not simply inspired by the transient world of fading flowers and fallen leaves but actually created with them as well. Illustrated here is Pool of Flowers, in which fresh flowers and leaves are rubbed onto the canvas. Below is one of the most recent, in which colour pencil has been used added to the natural pigment released by the flowers and foliage.
After studying at Yıldız University, Murat Yıldız (born 1984) went on to the St Joost School of Art & Design in the Netherlands, where he continues to exhibit. He is the founder of an intiative called Dream News, and lives and works in Istanbul.
