The Netherlands’ major art museum has a wide ranging collection, with some 8,000 items on display at any given time, including furniture and textiles. Notable paintings are Rembrandt’s The Night Watch<-i>, and Vermeer’s The Milkmaid<-i> and Woman Reading a Letter<-i>. Jean-Baptiste Vanmour’s depiction of the Dutch Ambassador Cornelis Calkoen’s audience with sultan Ahmed III (ca. 1728) is a historical interest. The museum also has an Islamic collection.
